Every story begins with listening. For me, stories are rarely found in plot alone. They  emerge from place, memory, and the people who inhabit them. My novels are rooted in richly realized settings where houses, churches, taverns, small towns, islands, rivers, meadows and quiet landscapes become as important as the characters themselves.

Every place has a personality, and every personality leaves its mark on those who live there.

I believe the places we inhabit shape the people we become. A weathered farmhouse, a Gulf Coast island, a small Midwestern town, or a forgotten church all possess a spirit that quietly shapes those who live there. Place is never simply a backdrop. It challenges us, comforts us, reveals us, and sometimes changes us. My stories begin by listening to those places before discovering the people who call them home.

I'm drawn to characters with conviction—ordinary men and women whose beliefs, loyalties, hopes, and flaws are tested by extraordinary circumstances. Their journeys are rarely about defeating a villain as much as discovering who they truly are when life asks more of them than they imagined they could give.

 

Above all, I hope my stories leave readers with the feeling that they have lived somewhere real, walked beside unforgettable people, and discovered that every place has its own story waiting to be heard.
